STRAIGHT TO THE POINT: MAGICAL MYKONOS

I was listening to a podcast this morning (an interview with Em and Lou from the fashion, beauty, travel and lifestyle blog A Style Album) and one thing that resonated with me was that they were fed up with having to sift through so much information just to find out where to go when on holiday or travelling to a new city. After 17 years of writing about every cruising ground there is, it made me think about repetition; the same copy that is written over and over again but with a new twist, rather than simple recommendations that are straight to the point; easy to navigate travel pieces that readers can just glance through to see where is hot right now. So, with this, the first of my Straight to the point destination posts, I bring you the best on offer on the stunning Greek island of Mykonos.

Mykonos - cool place, very chic. We all know it. Enough said.

Drink & dine

  • Take the tender to the bohemian Agios Sostis Beach for lunch at a little taverna called Kiki’s

  • Head to the eastern end of Ftelia Beach and enjoy the sunset at the stylish bar and restaurant Alemagou

  • For traditional Greek food with a view, head to Katrin’s – one of the oldest restaurants in Chora

  • Step ashore to the caves of Agia Anna and take the path down to Spilia. The restaurant is perched on a natural platform on the rocks and has a fantastic rosé selection to accompany sea urchins served straight from the sea

  • Dine under the infamous windmills at Sea Satin. Request a table by the waters edge

  • Also located by the windmills, Caprice is the place for cocktails at sunset accompanied by chill-out tunes from the decks of the resident DJ. Move on to Astra for dancing until the early hours

  • Talking of dancing, the island’s most formidable beach club Nammos is the place to head for a late lunch, accompanied with wine and dancing on the tables (the latter is essential)

  • Scorpios is a restaurant/ beach club with a chilled vibe. Flanked by two bays, the driftwood day beds and soulful tunes make for one of the best beach clubs in the Mediterranean

Shop

  • Located inside Nammos, Luisa Beach provides a fun shopping experience. Expect designer brands and designer prices

  • With everything from jewellery to fashion to homeware, Freeshop in Chora comprises two stores - one for either sex (obviously)

  • For boho-beachwear head to Bazaar at Scorpios Beach Club. My advice would be to go once you have a tan - nothing strikes newbie as much as a red face with a tasseled kaftan

  • Finish off your outfit with a stunning piece of jewellery from Kessaris

Spa

  • You may already have a masseuse or beautician on board, but if not then step ashore for a treatment at the Royal Myconian Resort & Thalassa Spa

  • For a daily dose of sun salutations head to Scorpios for a sunrise yoga session

Anchor

  • Sheltered from the Meltemi, Ornos Bay is one of the island’s most popular anchorages. Situated in the southwest of the island, it also provides access to some of the best beaches found along Mykonos’ south coast, including Paradise Beach and Platis Gialos
